When you are looking to buy advertising for your blog you are looking for the advertisement that will get you the most bang for your buck. Most likely the best way to do this would be 2 things. The most general type of advertising for a website would be to buy a link on the side bar of some site under "our Friends" or "Sponsors" or even "Buddy Sites".
First things first, never buy a perm link (permanent link). They are usually just rips. Try to get a monthly link where you can pay for it all in just one month. That way you can keep up with the site that your link is placed in.
If you can try to get as much as info about the website as possible from the person looking to sell the link. If he can provide you with some stats on the site then that would help start you off.
Now, the next thing we will do is look at the exact place where he will place the link. You have to make sure that your link is getting placed in an area where it will be seen. It doesn't have to be in the middle of the page, but it shouldn't be at the very bottom either. You also might want to check out how many links he is actually planning to sell. That way you are not buying a link that will be placed next to 100 other links.
Later, you can start doing some research on the site. Start by looking over the sites content, it should be unique and well done. Then, you should start checking how it's doing in search engines. Check how many pages it has indexed and how many backlinks it has. Type this in the two search engines that really matter, Google and Yahoo.
* Site: http://sitegoeshere
* Link: http://sitegoeshere
The Site one is for checking how many pages were indexed by the engine & Link is for how many pages have linked to the page. If the site has not been indexed on the search engine then don't bother with them because they are most likely very new.
When you are looking at the links try checking out the site that's linking to it. See if anything positive or negative is written about it. Then apply that to it.
It might seem a bit of over kill but believe me when I say it is worth the time. Buying advertising from just anywhere is not the best idea.
