As each and every person has a different constitution Ayurveda seeks to balance the doshas or humors in a person which is the basis of good health. Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine and seeks to prevent as well as cure diseases. It tries to cure diseases in the mental, physical and spiritual level and in that way is gaining recognition the world over as a good alternative system of medicine.
The three important principles which govern the normal functioning of the human body according to Ayurveda are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. They symbolize the three bhutas namely air, fire and water. Any disequilibrium in the three doshas will lead to imbalance in the body in some form that in turn leads to diseases. Ayurveda encompasses eight branches of treatment ranging from surgery, internal medicine, childhood diseases, toxicology, psychiatry and many more disciplines.
There are also weight loss packages and traditional panchakarma treatments offered at the ayurvedic centers which aim a host of diseases including depression, chronic headache and other stress related disorders. The panchakarma treatment also helps in detoxifying, rejuvenating and balancing both mind and body. Ayurveda also gives advice on food and lifestyle changes to be incorporated in one's life that will kick start all round health. Its popularity lies in the fact that it combines both preventive and curative aspects of medicine in treating ailments of different kinds.
